If I were the Twitter Product Manager for a Day . .

February 17th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Product Management, Social Media

My good friends at SpatiallyRelevant had a rather amusing post the other day.  In their piece entitled The people at Google are Smarter than the Twitter Folk you can read the ramblings of a highly frustrated Twitter user and not so closet East Coast style product manager.

Twitter Gives Us the Bird

For a company who should have updated their home page with new quotes by now, they definitely have hit a home run with the brand bird which appears to be the key asset, but they could use just a little more “management” of the product.  Maybe a messaging refresh, website update, feature delivery is needed at this point.

Good news – it won’t be hard to add new features or find ones to build out.  From a competitive intelligence perspective, the Product Managers could quickly see what others are building and prioritize, they could look at what they already have and find ways to improve it.  This may be asking a bunch from folks who have like 2 year old quotes on their home page.

The folks at SpatiallyRelevant were then kind enough to go on and write a few requirements to help the TwitterPMs solve the glaringly obvious problem of integration search.twitter.com and twitter.com.  I don’t know, but perhaps the folks who had over 54 million page views in January 2009 might have somewhat of a clue about what they’re doing.  Or maybe SpatiallyRelevant is interested in Twitter’s Business Product Manager job and this was his creative way of getting their attention?
